A Move Towards a Greener Britain

After a boom in installations last year, support budgets in the solar panels industry were almost exhausted. This week it has been suggested that subsidies on solar panels should be slashed to make way for more budget.

Solar Panels Installation Skyrocketed…

After the solar panel grants were announced in April of last year, there was a boom in installations as homeowners looked to go green and save money on energy bills. The Feed-In Tariff meant that homeowners could start earning money for the energy generated from their solar panels, thus making homes more self-sufficient.

Recent announcements suggest that there will soon be a move towards a gradual and sustained lowering of the tariff which will control spiralling costs. From 3rd March, subsidies will be halved from 43.4p per kilowatt to 21p per kilowatt. Anyone installing panels after this time will only receive 21p per kilowatt of electricity generated from their solar panels.

Last year, Britain installed around 3 per cent of all solar panels installations around the world, double that of numbers in sunnier countries like Greece. According to the Climate Change Energy Minister, Greg Barker, the new plans will see almost two and a half times more installation that originally projected by 2015. Not only is this good news for the growth of the industry, but also for the planet as more homeowners reduce their carbon footprint on the planet.
